The Scarlet Letter Special Quote

"'Good Master Dimmesdale,' said he, 'the responsibility of this woman's should lies greatly with you. It behooves you, therefore, to exhort her to repentance, and confession, as a proof and consequence thereof.'" (Hawthorne 46)
This ironic quote was directed to the Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale and was stated by Governor Richard Bellingham. The quote is regarding Hester Prynne's life, the protagonist. Governor Bellingham ordered this to Reverend Dimmesdale addressing it to both the crowd and Dimmesdale. Hester Prynne was on an elevated area where everyone had a view of her and could mock her for her drastic sin. Governor Bellingham is forcing all the responsibility of retrieving the information from Hester Prynne's sin. This quote has enormous significance in the story for the reader will realize the ugly truth it portrays. The greatest factor the quote obtains is the irony. Governor Bellingham requests Reverend Dimmesdale to leech out the truth from Prynne's sin, and the accomplice to Hester's sin is Dimmesdale himself. Reverend Dimmesdale is being asked to gather information which he already knows specifically about the unlawful sin. There is no possible way the truth can be discovered with the people in charge keeping their classified information to themselves. Roger Chillingworth is Hester Prynne's husband, but is believed to be dead. Hester immediately recognized him after years apart and at their encounter, Chillingworth promised that he would find thee who Hester cheated with. Chillingworth's mission is rather difficult with Dimmesdale's top secret information will be kept to himself truthfully, or is it?

China "Protecting" Japanese Territory?

"China Establishes 'Air-Defence Zone' Over East China Sea"

There have been various conflicts between China and Japan throughout the decades, and currently the two islands Senkaku, Japanese territory, and Diaoyu, Chinese territory, are the center of attention at the moment. China extended its 'air-defence zone' reaching both Senkaku and Diaoyu. Japan senses a major conflict approaching with Japan's foreign ministry stating, "Setting up such airspace unilaterally escalates the situations surrounding Senkaku islands and has danger of leading to an unexpected situation." Taiwan owns a section of the islands as well and have the same mentality as Japan, promising that the military would move in to protect national security. China claims to have taken this action to "safeguarding state sovereignty, territorial land and air security, and maintaining flight order." China and Japan have had conflicts in the past decades concerning the islands, and in 2012 Japan bought three of those islands causing protests in China. In September, Japan said they would gun down unmanned aircrafts after a Chinese drone flew close to the islands. After the incident China said that if Japan shoots down another Chinese aircraft they would account it for an act of war and take measures. Clearly these two countries are not on good terms, and by the looks of it, it will not be improving much.

Puritan Religious Tolerance in Massachusetts

http://nvdatabase.swarthmore.edu/content/quakers-fight-religious-freedom-puritan-massachusetts-1656-1661
The main reason the colonists left England was because of their disagreement with the religion in England. Those who left began their own religion and were known as Puritans. In the early 1650's the Massachusetts Bay Colony was run by Puritans, so therefore there was no religious tolerance whatsoever. Later in 1656 English colonists began to arrive forming the Religious Society of Friends, currently remembered as the Quakers. Arriving to the Boston harbor they immediately requested religious freedom and to live in Massachusetts with equal rights as the other citizens. Obviously the Puritans did not grant the Quakers their wish. They treated the Quakers as brutally as possible to send a message to either become Puritans and live in Massachusetts or otherwise stay away. Quakers began being persecuted due to the rebellion toward the Puritans. The Quakers disregarded the message. They still pursued the immigration into Massachusetts any way possible, from the east, south, and north. The Massachusetts Puritans soon began creating new laws to prevent the Quakers from entering the state and disrupting their religious tolerance. The Massachusetts jails were filled with Quakers, and plenty of persecutions of Quakers performed daily. When Quakers were being tried in court, many other Quakers would run in to disrupt the proceedings. They would attempt any possible act of rebellion to get their rights in Massachusetts, usually ending in executions. The image below depicts the persecutions of Quakers with Puritans gathered to watch the executions.

Any natural disaster is devastating for a nation, and the Philippines are going through a typhoon that is decimating the city of Tacloban. At the moment conditions are gradually improving with major roads being cleared and cellphone communications are enhancing. A week after Typhoon Haiyan left its mark on the Philippines, progress to aid the victims and rebuilding the cities has been coming underway. The national government assisted the affected cities by sending police officers and troops to places such as Tacloban, where close to 1,000 have been sent to that area. Tacloban is in such awful condition that Ofelia Casio was elected mayor for the Talcoban City Convention Center without even applying for the and was chosen unanimously. Ms. Casio is also left in charge of the victims of the typhoon that are left homeless. "If there's any organization that comes, I represent the people," Ms. Casio stated. "If there's any donations, I take the list of families and match it with what they need." On Sunday she reinforced the children that were taking refuge in the stadium to get the vaccinations that are necessary. Casio and the Philippines are attempting any technique possible to bring back the nation to its successful state.

SOAPST on Ralph Waldo Emerson's Education

Education SOAPST Analysis
Speaker- Ralph Waldo Emerson
Occasion- 1820's to 1830's
Audience- the world
P- to teach, to inform
Subject- educational reform
Tone- confident, friendly, informative, educated
The author Ralph Waldo Emerson knew perfectly what point he wanted to prove. He wrote Education with no bias at all, forcing people to think what the true meaning of education is. The main idea Emerson is attempting to prove is that students should find their own path to life, not what the teacher or parents would like the student to pursue. The teacher is a mentor or guide to what the student would like to achieve. Emerson also believes that everyone is a genius, it is a matter of how that person becomes the genius they have in themselves. A perfect example Emerson was an anecdote about a gentleman named Sir Charles Fellows. According to Emerson this overachieving man became the genius that he is by traveling the world to find the genius master to suit his preferences. Fellows did not go to school to find an education, but gained the knowledge of education by traveling to countries such as England and Greece, where he learned their beautiful languages. Emerson believes that for a pupil to become a genius they need the genius teacher, which requires the one eager to learn to find the guider themselves. The true meaning of education is outstandingly portrayed my Emerson

Early morning on Friday, November 1st, the international airport LAX was under attack by a single gunman. Witnesses spoke about there terrifying near death experience. Demetrius Trammel was in Gladstone's 4 Fish restaurant kitchen when he saw travelers sprinting in and out of the restaurant. A moment later Trammel heard gunshots and everyone instinctively dropped to the floor at once. While the people in the terminal food court did their best to take cover, Trammel said he saw the gunman emerge carrying an AR-15 rifle on his shoulder. "He was looking around," stated Trammel. "He was calm, pacing, scanning the crowd, like he was looking for somebody specifically." Trammel saw three men with helmets against the wall stealthily making their way toward the gunman. Courageously, Trammel went and shut off the lights, temporarily blinding the gunman. Afterward, he heard around five to six gunshots and subsequently, complete silence. Looking up after hearing the gunshots, the gunman was face down on the floor bleeding from the leg and upper body. There are many more eye witness stories such as Trammel's, showing the tension that was in the room at the moment.
