Berlitz Commercial

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gh5xu35bAxA

This is a commercial for Berlitz which provides global language learning and cultural training. It shows two German coast guards with one of them explaining to the other what to do in German. The coast guard soon receives a call a call from the intercom saying "Mayday mayday, we are sinking, we are sinking." The German coast guard, not knowing much english, hesitantly responds, "What are you sinking about?" The commercial skit depicts that there are many foreigners in the country that have trouble speaking the english language and communicating with others. Applying SOAPST to this advertisement would be:
Subject- A German coast guard who has trouble communicating with a sinking crew shop
Occasion- A German coast guard receives a message from a crew ship saying that the ship is sinking
Audience- Any non-English speaking person in the world or foreigner in the U.S. that has trouble with the English language.
Purpose- The purpose of this ad is to encourage others to learn english through Berlitz
Speaker- The speaker is the Berlitz company
Tone- The tone of the commercial is funny, exciting, and encouraging for others to learn.
There is no specific ethos in the commercial. The same concept applies to the logos aspect of the commercial, which ceases to exist. The pathos in the advertisement is the Berlitz company's motto "Language for life" which makes people feel guaranteed that they will speak fluent English if they learn through Berlitz
